Cellulite can appear on several areas of the body, more commonly the thighs, hips, abdomen and buttocks, but it can also be found on the breasts and upper arms.
Cellulite can only usually be seen if you pinch the skin of the affected area, such as your thighs. However, more severe cases of cellulite can make the skin appear bumpy or lumpy with crater—like dimples.
Cellulite is caused when deposits of fat, surrounded by fibrous connective tissue break through the collagen fibres and septae (membranes) which connect them to the skin.
Over time and in some cases, with weight gain, the fibres and septae stretch and break down and the fat cells grow. This means that the compartments which hold the fat cells get crowded and the fibres pull downwards on the skin, creating the ‘dimpled’ effect that we know as cellulite.

At IHYA Clinic in Birmingham, we understand that cellulite, though not dangerous to our general health, can be the cause of self-consciousness, especially in the warmer months when we may bare more of our bodies (in swimsuits on holiday for example).
This is why we offer a range of non-surgical, clinically-proven treatments to reduce the unsightly appearance of cellulite, for smoother, firmer skin.
