Skin laxity

Skin laxity can happen anywhere on the face or body, as the ageing process happens. However, it is the skin of the face that we notice most, the effects of getting older.

At IHYA Clinic in Birmingham, we offer a range of clinically-proven, non-surgical skin tightening treatments, to not only help the skin regain its ‘snap’ back and plump-looking hydration, but to sculpt the facial contours, so that your skin is supported once more, to be lifted and toned.

Causes of skin laxity

Skin laxity is simply the term used for loose skin. Laxity becomes more apparent in our 40s, when the tissues of the facial anatomy such as bone mass of the skull, fat pads and muscle deplete.

These components of the face act as a scaffold to support the facial skin, so when these start to decrease, the skin becomes loose, lax and lines and wrinkles begin to form. As certain substances of the skin, such as collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid reduce within the skin, this causes dehydration and a compromised skin matrix.

The skin loses that plump and youthful appearance, sags down and can even promote a change in the facial shape, as jowls begin to appear and hollows start to show around the temples and lower cheeks.

Appearance of skin laxity

Deeper folds of the skin such as marionette and smile lines can exacerbate the ageing process, as well as issues around the eyes, such as puffiness, bags and dark circles. The neck can also succumb to the effects of age, showing sagging skin (turkey neck) and vertical lines.

Treatments for skin laxity

At IHYA Clinic, we believe that ageing is one of the miracles of nature, but it doesn’t have to mean being unhappy with the way we look or feel. Ageing gracefully but beautifully should be accessible to everyone who cares about their appearance, and this is why we offer a wide-range of non-surgical treatments, for rejuvenated skin and sculpted facial contours.
